Many of the comments I read on Stay compared it to movies such as The Sixth Sense and The Butterfly Effect. So this was my natural choice at the video shop.

I must still get used to Ashton Kutcher in serious roles.

It’s an original idea but not a movie I will rave about. The most interesting thing about the whole DVD is the bonus features, where they discuss chaos theory in terms of psychology. The Butterfly Effect is a term that is used in chaos theory. It means that a tiny change in initial conditions, like a butterfly’s wings can have unpredictable results, like cause a typhoon halfway around the world.

In the same manner, a very small seeminlgy unsignificant event in our past, may have led to a radical change in our personality and behaviour. If the event didn’t happen, me might have been completely different people.

In the movie, the character has the opportunity to go back to the past to change things. He ends up in several different timelines, none of which is to his satisfaction, and he must find the right moment in time and do the right thing to have the future the way he wants it.

The movie is quite serious and should not be confused with Back to the Future, for example.
